Consulting Finance Leader (Senior Manager)
About the team:
At PwC, our Finance Business teams are an integral part of the internal Finance function. Finance Business teams are aligned to business units and work closely with the business unit’s leadership team to help drive business performance. They provide a platform to support well-informed and high quality financial decision making. Business units will naturally vary in size, but can be as large as 1,000 professional staff who provide services within particular markets, industries, geographies or products.
The Finance Business team provide objective financial advice and opinions that positively impact the future choices of the business unit. They identify and drive financial improvements whether through pricing, efficiency, resource allocation or cost management. They prepare financial plans, targets, budgets and forecasts for the business unit and report on financial and non-financial performance against these.
About the role:
As a Senior Finance Manager you should have strong business, technical, analytical and commercial skills and be able to apply your knowledge to provide advice to client facing professionals in line with PwC policies and accounting standards. You should be forward-thinking and be able to develop innovative solutions to support the business growth and profitability targets. You will help drive business performance and provide a platform to support well-informed and high quality financial decision making.
You will report to the Director of Finance for Consulting, and lead a small team of finance professionals. Liaising with and working alongside other finance and commercial functions, you will develop a network of key finance contacts and build strong relationships, developing new skills.
Consulting is at a critical stage in its development with the largest external market opportunity for its services to aim for. If we are to exploit these opportunities the further development of strong Management Information systems, tools and analysis is key to our success. This is one of the prime areas of focus of the role.
Consulting is also transforming its processes including the adoption of Alternative Delivery Models and the principles of the network led ONE Architecture. You will be at the forefront of developing and improving appropriate finance systems and processes to drive this transformation process to seamlessly integrate with our existing traditional domestic delivery models.
As a Senior Finance Manager, you will play a key role in the following areas:
Performance management, control & improvement
Along with the Director of Finance, Leading and taking responsibility for the performance, coaching and development of a Finance Business team.
Developing effective relationships with senior stakeholders and becoming a key business lead on finance matters for Consulting.
Develop and improve processes for transformational aspects of Consulting including Alternative Delivery Models and ONE Architecture where Consulting is leading the firm’s thinking.
Understanding the key profit and cost drivers in the business, ensuring that risks are highlighted and mitigated in an efficient manner.
Is responsible for providing commentary and interpretation of the monthly financial results to consulting business leaders including developing our Monthly Performance review. Able to interpret, communicate, narrate and draw management attention to the commercial implications of business performance, succinctly and with impact.
Monitors performance of the balanced scorecard metrics while understanding the relationship / behaviours of the non-financial metrics including Sales & Marketing and Human Capital. Employs strong business analysis skills to explore opportunities to identify underlying business issues from financial data and trends.
Measuring and reporting on our firm wide growth priorities such as Strategy, Technology and Deals Strategy and Operations.
Integration of any acquisitions into Consulting
Involvement with internal and external auditors to ensure appropriate responses.
Business strategy & strategic planning
- Works closely with the Business Planning Executive to prepare the financial aspects of the business plan. Sound understanding of the levers that will transform our business including Alternative Delivery models and rebalancing of our services portfolio essential for this.
- Helps identify, develop and prioritise delivery of the firm’s strategic and operational financial objectives within the business units and industry cluster and sector leadership.
- Develops and monitors Consulting investment plans and growth priority areas in consultation with the Consulting executive and partners as well as the requirements of the UK Clients and Markets executive. Be proactive in challenging rationale and assist Partners to make their case.
- Exploits the ongoing use and development of Consulting Management Information (MI) from a finance perspective, working with the Consulting teams developing the global Business Operating Systems including Salesforce, Workday and EM/FI as well as other MI initiatives across the firm to maximise the quality and impact of MI on the Consulting practice.
ACA, CIMA or ACCA qualified
Strong systems and MI knowledge
Commercially minded with a good understanding of a professional services business
Previous business advisory experience
Investment appraisal and business case exposure
Experience in reporting and planning procedures
Demonstrable ability to communicate and influence at senior level
Strong analytical skills
This is an office based role with the opportunity of flexible working hours and the opportunity to work from home occasionally.
You’ll be required to travel/stay overnight away from home occasionally
