The People in Deals team is a multi-disciplinary team that works alongside transaction services and our HRM consulting teams.
We deliver end-to-end HR and pensions deal services, to help our clients achieve success from their deals and create value through M&As, disposals and restructuring.
As HR and pension deals experts we have designed and overseen hundreds of successful deals, from developing the right people strategy to ensuring that the deal is executed seamlessly with a clear value focus. We support companies to implement changes that will deliver people synergies and improvements long after the deal is signed.
Our team’s experts cover a variety of HR and pension areas such as workforce planning and transition, organisational design, engagement and culture, retention, compensation & benefits, HR service delivery, employee relations, and HR systems and processes.
Clients and work
Our clients are from various industries (such as health & pharma, retail & consumer, industrial products, energy/ utilities/ mining, financial services, and telecom/ media/ technology) as well as Private Equity (PE). The deals we advise on vary from small domestic to global multi-billion pounds transactions. We advise our clients throughout the whole deal cycle from due diligence to integration and separation planning and execution, as well as post deal business and cultural transformation. As a Director in the People in Deals team:
You have strong commercial acumen and are able to shape and support opportunities in the market, with a relentless focus on building new business.
You develop deep and ongoing client relationships at senior levels in client organisations and can use your external and internal network to shape commercial opportunities
As an end-to-end deal expert you have a deep knowledge in both people and HR matters as well as the whole deal cycle, with a focus on the post-deal space
You comfortably work under the pressure and tight deadlines of a deal environment
You lead and develop cross-functional teams effectively, inspire your colleagues, translate the business strategy into team actions and set the strategic direction for your team
You are a subject matter expert on the in-deal and post-deal space with knowledge and experience of both the ‘soft’ (culture change, change management and communication and talent management) as well as the ‘hard’ and more technical aspects of a deal (organisation design, people transition and labour / industrial relations)
You have 10 years or more experience working on HR in deals across both integration and carve-out and with a strong business development track record in HR in Deals
You have effectively managed a team of consultants to ensure successful delivery to time and of a high quality
You have worked directly with the HRD / C-suite to shape the HR / People agenda across an integration or separation programme, acting as a trusted advisor and providing strategic advice and insight to your client
You have worked with clients to scope work and fees on transactions, and have experience of generating new business in the market and identifying and successfully pursuing new opportunities
You have been a people leader / performance manager to a number of appraisees and managed high and low performers successfully, including providing career advice and coaching
You have been a Senior Manager or above in a professional services environment
You have experience across all key areas of the HR / People workstream in a deal, with a focus on in-deal and post-deal activities: both the ‘soft’ (culture change, change management and communication and talent management) as well as the ‘hard’ and more technical aspects of a deal (organisation design, people transition and labour / industrial relations)
As deals become more complex (cross border, assets swaps etc) the people elements become ever-more important. PwC recognise this and the People in Deals business has been given licence to grow as part of our strategic DS&O (Deal Strategy & Operations) initiative
The People in Deals team are looking to grow against an aggressive target, building on opportunities internally within our successful Delivering Deal Value (DDV) team, but also seeking out new market opportunities
The Director role is key to not only growing but also developing our team, and this role will be key to imparting skills and knowledge to our graduates, Managers and supporting our Senior Managers on complex transactions
This role focuses on expanding our in-deal and post-deal HR footprint on big, complex deals which are often multi-country / global integrations and separations
The Director will work with the People in Deals partners to grow our practice and shape and drive our go to market strategy, with exposure to senior members of the DDV and Transaction Services leadership team
Critical requirements are:
Experience at senior level in a professional services organisation with a strong business development track record in HR in Deals
Experience of people workstreams in deals (both integrations and separations)
Highly developed communication and stakeholder management skills
Great people management skills and leadership potential
Experienced team leader
University educated (2:1 degree or higher)
Previous Senior Manger level or higher at a professional services firm with a strong business development track record in HR in deals
